Sylvia Tur Seattle Restored Artist Residency Opening

Sylvia Tur Seattle Restored Artist Residency Opening

Please join famed ceramist Sylwia Tur this Friday from5 to 8pm for a soft opening of the Seattle Restored Artist Residency at 1121 First Avenue (one block south from Seattle Art Museum). In the artist’s own words:

Along with 4 other artists, I am in the process of transforming the space into an art gallery / store / workshop / studio for the next 5 months. You will be able to see us working, changing exhibitions, collaborating with each other, etc. And we would love to hear what you would like to see in the space!

For me, this is an experiment and exploration of some design concepts I’ve been considering for a while – not only with my beloved medium of porcelain, but also with wearable art, including clothing and accessories.

If you cannot make it this Friday, come anytime during our open hours, which will be Tuesday – Saturday, noon-5pm, plus by appointment. Additionally, we plan to be open in the evenings during all of the neighboring monthly art walks: Belltown, Downtown, and Pioneer Square, so stop by then as well!

Since we are finalizing our move into the space this week, public hours may change in the future (they will most likely increase). Please check the Seattle Restored website for the most up-to-date information. You are always welcome to text/call (206-850-6640) or email me (sylwia@sylwiatur.com) with any questions or to arrange for a special visit.

If you can think of anyone else who would enjoy my work, you have my gratitude for forwarding them this invitation or simply bringing them along for the ride.

Sylwia Tur was born and raised in Poland. She received MA and BA degrees in Linguistics from the University of Washington in Seattle, followed by post-Baccalaureate studies in Studio Art (Ceramics) also at the UW. Tur is interested in language, architecture, and design, distilled to their basic components of organization, grid, proportion, and reduction. Modernism, minimalism, and brutalist architecture, growing up in communist Poland, seeing the rise of solidarity and observing the country undergoing political, social, and economic changes, have all shaped her perception and aesthetics. Sylwia’s work has been exhibited locally at Linda Hodges Gallery in Seattle, Foster/White, Gallery4Culture, Museum of Northwest Art, Francine Seders Gallery, Monarch Contemporary, and CoCA. She is a recipient of the Individual Artist Grant from 4Culture, Artist Trust GAP Grant, and the Regional Exhibition Award from the National Council of Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). Her artwork is in private and public collections around the world. In addition to her art practice, she works as a linguist, a field from which she continues to draw inspiration.
