We Are Not Alone

I was prompted to write this article by two events, one last Saturday and one happening soon.

On Sunday, March 2, the Seattle Polish Film Festival organized a fundraiser for Ukraine and presented the movie “Erase the Nation” about the war in Ukraine. It was a sold-out event with lots of Poles, Ukrainians, and Americans in the audience.

Starting March 31, the Seattle Jewish Film Festival will present a Polish movie “The Death of Zygielbojm” (Śmierć Zygielbojma).

It’s not the first time that local ethnic organizations have collaborated with and supported each other. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, we have raised over $60,000 for the Ukrainian Relief Fund. For years, the Polish Home Association has collaborated with the Ethnic Heritage Council.

All this is to remind you that we are not alone. Our Polish community in Seattle is small, but our strength is not in numbers. It is in the unity and support we offer each other. So go see the movie “Śmierć Zygielbojma” and show your support.
